Water Line Repair & Replacement

A solid line from meter to house

Main water line leaks, breaks and worn-out pipe repaired or replaced, with as little digging as the ground allows.

Water Line Repair & Replacement

The pipe that feeds everything else

Your main water line carries every gallon your home uses, and it does that work underground where you can’t see it fail. In mountain towns, freeze-thaw cycles and rocky soil stress the pipe. In the desert, expansive soil shifts as it dries and soaks, and hard water narrows older lines from the inside. Galvanized and polybutylene service lines from past decades are especially prone to leaks and breaks, and they’re the most common reason for a full water line replacement.

We diagnose the line with pressure testing and electronic leak detection, then repair a single damaged section or replace the full run, depending on the condition of the pipe. New lines go in copper or PEX, set for local freeze and soil conditions. Where the site allows it, trenchless methods spare driveways and landscaping. Water line service is offered by our Flagstaff, Durango, St. George and Jackson teams.

  • Located Before Digging We find the break first, so we dig in one place.
  • Trenchless Options Less excavation where the line and soil allow it.
  • Financing Available Full replacements can be paid over time.

Water line questions

Who is responsible for the water line, me or the city?

In most places the utility owns the line up to the meter and the homeowner owns everything from the meter to the house. That private section is what we repair and replace. If you’re on a well, the whole line from the well to the house is yours. Check with your water provider if you’re unsure.

Which locations repair water lines?

Water line repair and replacement is offered by all four of our teams: Flagstaff, Durango, St. George & Hurricane and Jackson. If you’re not sure the leak is in the main line, leak detection will confirm it before anyone digs. Each location page lists the towns that team covers.

Should I repair or replace my water line?

If the line is in good shape apart from one break, a section repair is usually enough. If it’s galvanized or polybutylene, has leaked before or shows corrosion along its length, replacing it saves you from paying for the next break. We show you what we found and price both.

Will you have to dig up my yard?

Some digging is usually needed, but how much depends on the job. Locating the leak precisely means a section repair needs only one small excavation. For full replacements, trenchless methods can avoid a long open trench when the soil and line route allow it.

Can I finance a water line replacement?

Yes. A full service line replacement is a larger project, and it can be paid over time. See financing for current plans, and ask about $50 off any plumbing service when you book. Payment options are explained alongside the price you approve.

How much does it cost to replace a main water line?

Nationally, replacing a residential service line from the meter to the house often runs about $1,500 to $6,000, with long, deep or trenchless runs under driveways at the high end and a single-section repair well below it. Rocky ground, frost depth, pipe material and restoring concrete or landscaping move the number. Those are national ranges that vary by home. Element gives a written, upfront price for your home after locating the problem.
