Heating Maintenance in St. George
Your furnace spends most of the year doing nothing, and that’s exactly why it needs attention. While the AC runs all summer, dust settles on the burners and flame sensor, filters load up and small electrical problems go unnoticed. The first chilly evening in November is when those problems surface, usually as a smell of burning dust, a furnace that lights and drops out, or no heat at all.
A fall tune-up from Element clears that dust and tests the parts most likely to fail. We clean the burners and flame sensor, check the igniter, gas pressure and blower, tighten electrical connections, calibrate the thermostat and test venting and carbon monoxide levels. If something is close to failing, we’ll tell you and quote the repair upfront. Want it handled every year? Join our maintenance plan.
Symptom Check
Any of these, or a year without service, means it’s time to book.
A furnace that skipped a year carries extra dust and wear into winter.
A strong smell that lingers past the first few minutes means heavy buildup.
A healthy gas flame is steady and blue; yellow points to dirty burners.
A furnace that shuts off after a minute often has a dirty flame sensor.
Paying more each winter to stay warm points to a system losing efficiency.
Rooms take much longer to reach temperature than they used to.

Seasonal checkups for every system in your home.
Seasonal checkups catch small problems before they become emergencies — and keep your systems running efficiently all year.
Yes. A short heating season doesn’t mean low wear. Months of dust settling on an idle furnace, plus dry air and big temperature swings, cause many of the no-heat calls we get in winter. A yearly visit keeps ignition reliable and confirms the venting is safe.
A seasonal inspection, cleaning and safety check on one furnace. Mention the $59 furnace tune-up when you book. If we find a problem, we’ll explain it and give you a price before doing anything more. You decide what, if anything, gets fixed, and you’ll leave with a clear picture of your furnace’s condition.
September through early November is ideal, after the AC season winds down and before you need heat every night. You’ll get your choice of times and any repair can be done before it matters. If your air conditioner is getting older too, fall is a good time to talk about how both systems are holding up.
Change the filter regularly and keep the area around the furnace clear of storage. Leave burner cleaning, gas pressure checks and carbon monoxide testing to a technician. Make sure you have working CO alarms near bedrooms. If the furnace sits in a garage or closet, store paint and cleaning chemicals well away from it.
We recommend two visits a year: the furnace in fall and the air conditioner in spring, each before its busy season. Our maintenance plan is an easy way to stay on that schedule, so ask what it includes when you book. Read about AC maintenance for the spring visit.
