City Water Solutions in St. George
Most homes in St. George draw water from the Virgin River system and local groundwater, treated and disinfected before it ever reaches your meter. It meets federal standards, and that matters. But treatment doesn’t remove everything you might notice. Chlorine keeps the water safe in miles of pipe and can leave a pool smell in the shower. When it reacts with natural organic matter it forms byproducts that carbon filters are good at reducing. And the source water is very hard, so calcium and magnesium pass straight through to your fixtures.
A city water system from Element handles those three issues in order. Carbon or catalytic carbon reduces chlorine and its byproducts for the whole house. A softener or salt-free conditioner deals with hardness. A reverse osmosis faucet in the kitchen handles drinking and cooking water. We test first, and you choose the stages that make sense for your home.

Standards set legal limits, not the ideal. Water can meet every limit and still taste of chlorine, leave scale everywhere and contain low levels of byproducts and naturally occurring minerals that some families would rather reduce. Filtration is a choice about taste, comfort and peace of mind. Your provider’s annual water quality report is a good place to start reading.
When chlorine is added to kill germs, some of it reacts with natural organic matter in the water and forms compounds such as trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids. Utilities monitor and limit them. Activated and catalytic carbon are effective at reducing them in the home, and a reverse osmosis system reduces them further in drinking water.
No. Carbon filters target chlorine, taste and odor, and the minerals that cause scale pass right through. Hardness needs its own treatment: a salt-based water softener to remove it or a salt-free conditioner to keep it from sticking. Most homes on city water here end up with both a filter and a softener.
A properly sized one shouldn’t make a noticeable difference. Pressure loss usually comes from a system that’s too small for the home or filters left in service too long. We size the housing and media for your household’s peak flow and set a change schedule, so the shower still feels the same when the dishwasher is running.
