Panel Upgrades in St. George
Every circuit in your home starts at the electrical panel. Many older St. George houses still have 100-amp panels, and some still have fuse boxes, which were built for a fraction of what families use now. Add central air running all afternoon, a hot tub, a workshop or an electric car, and an undersized panel shows it with tripping breakers, dimming lights and no room left for new circuits.
Element’s licensed electricians replace and upgrade panels to match how you actually use power. We run a load calculation, recommend the right size, often a 200-amp service, and handle the installation to code. We also add subpanels for casitas, garages and additions, repair heat-damaged panels and install smart panels that let you watch usage from your phone. Planning a charger? Pair the upgrade with EV charger installation.
Time to Upgrade?
Any one of these is worth having a licensed electrician look at your panel.
Fuses weren’t designed for today’s loads and are hard to expand.
Breakers trip whenever the AC, dryer and microwave overlap.
Smaller services often can’t support central air plus new additions.
A Level 2 charger needs room in the panel for a large circuit.
A spa, workshop, solar or a casita adds demand the panel must carry.
A warm panel cover, buzzing or burn marks need attention now.

Seasonal checkups for every system in your home.
Seasonal checkups catch small problems before they become emergencies — and keep your systems running efficiently all year.
We add up what your home uses and plans to use: central air, water heating, cooking, laundry, any spa or pool equipment and future additions like a car charger. That load calculation tells us the right service size. Many homes upgrade to 200 amps, but we size to your house, not a default.
A fuse box in good condition isn’t automatically unsafe, but it has limits. Fuses can be replaced with the wrong size, there’s rarely room to add circuits, and older wiring behind them may be worn. Replacing it with a breaker panel is safer and makes future work much easier.
Yes, for part of the day. A panel replacement requires disconnecting service while we work. We’ll tell you the expected window ahead of time and coordinate the steps that involve the utility. Most homeowners plan around it by scheduling a weekday and keeping the fridge closed until power returns.
Not always. Some panels have room for a 240-volt charger circuit; others are already near capacity once the AC and appliances are counted. We check yours first with a load calculation and explain what we find. See EV charger installation for how we plan the circuit and choose the breaker size.
Yes. Financing is available, which helps when a panel upgrade comes up alongside other work like a new air conditioner or a car charger. See our financing options or ask during your free estimate, and we’ll include the details with your upfront price.
