Cedar City runs colder, and we plan for it

Cedar City sits more than 3,000 feet above St. George, and anyone who has driven I-15 between them in January knows the difference. Winter here means real snow, single-digit nights and furnaces that run for months. Summer still brings heat worth a working AC. We serve homes across town, from the older streets near Main Street and Southern Utah University to the newer neighborhoods spreading across Cedar Valley.

Cedar City is part of our Southern Utah service area, and Iron County homeowners voted us Best of Iron County in 2025. Most winter calls here start with furnace repair in Cedar City or a frozen line that needs a Cedar City plumber once it thaws, and by July the same team is out on AC repair. We’re available 24/7, and every job comes with upfront pricing and our full service guarantee.

Working in Cedar City

High desert, real winters

Cedar City sits at about 5,670 feet in Cedar Valley, on the western edge of the Markagunt Plateau. That elevation gives it a very different climate from St. George, 50 miles down I-15. January nights average around 18 degrees, the record low is 26 below zero, and snowfall can be heavy. July highs still average around 91 degrees, so most homes need both a furnace and an air conditioner that work.

Cold is the bigger threat to plumbing here. Pipes in exterior walls, crawl spaces, garages and unheated additions are the first to freeze, and the damage often shows up only when the line thaws and starts leaking. Disconnecting hoses, insulating exposed runs and keeping cabinet doors open on the coldest nights all help. If a pipe does freeze, shut off the main and call before you try an open flame.

Furnaces work hard for a long season. A unit that struggles in October rarely improves by February, and a cracked heat exchanger or failing igniter is better found on a fall tune-up than at midnight in a cold snap. Water heaters work harder too, because the water coming into them is so cold in winter.

Cedar City’s homes span a wide range. It was founded in 1851, has grown quickly since the late 1980s, and some older neighborhoods still flood-irrigate lawns and gardens with water diverted from Coal Creek through canals and ditches. Older houses can carry aging supply lines and drains, while new subdivisions bring larger homes with bigger heating loads.

Hard water is common across Southern Utah, and a softener protects heaters and fixtures here as much as it does in the warmer towns to the south.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you really come up to Cedar City from St. George?

Yes. Cedar City is a regular part of our Southern Utah service area, and Iron County voted us Best of Iron County in 2025. Call any time; we’re available 24/7, including nights and holidays, and we’ll tell you when to expect the technician.

What should I do if a pipe freezes?

Shut off the main water valve first, so a split pipe can’t flood the house when it thaws. Open the faucet on that line and warm the area gently with a space heater or hair dryer, never a torch. Then call us for emergency plumbing if it doesn’t thaw or you find a leak.

When should I get my furnace checked?

Early fall, before the first cold snap. In Cedar City the furnace runs for months, and a tune-up catches worn igniters, dirty burners and airflow problems while there’s still time to fix them calmly. Our $59 furnace tune-up is valid here.

Is a tankless water heater a good fit for Cedar City?

It can be, as long as it’s sized for very cold incoming water in winter. An undersized unit will struggle to keep a shower hot in January. We size tankless heaters to your household and winter water temperature, and explain the gas or electrical work involved. See tankless water heaters.

Do you offer financing for a new furnace or AC?

Yes. Financing is available on larger jobs like a new furnace, air conditioner or water heater. Ask your technician, or read about financing options before your appointment. You’ll still get a clear price to approve first, and we’ll walk you through repair versus replacement.

*Offers cannot be combined with other promotions or applied to dispatch fees. No cash value. Must present offer at time of service. Call for details.
