Water Softeners in Jackson
Calcium and magnesium in your water don’t make it unsafe, but they do leave a mark. You see it as white crust on showerheads, spots on glassware and a film on the shower door. You don’t see it building up inside your water heater, dishwasher and washing machine, where scale makes them work harder and wear out sooner. Many homes on wells around Jackson and Star Valley deal with it, and town water carries minerals too.
A water softener swaps those minerals out before the water reaches your fixtures. We test your hardness first, then size the softener to your household’s water use, plumb it in at the main line with a bypass valve, and set the regeneration schedule. We also repair softeners that have stopped working, from salt bridges to stuck valves. If taste or odor is the bigger complaint, water filtration may be the better fit, and many homes use both.
Symptom Check
Hard water shows up all over the house once you know what to look for.
Scale around faucets and clogged showerhead nozzles.

You use more shampoo and detergent to get the same result.
Mineral residue left on skin and hair after every shower.
Popping from the tank is often scale from hard water.

Not every home does. Town water is treated for safety, not for hardness, so it can still leave scale on fixtures and in your water heater. A quick test shows how hard your water is. If the numbers are low, you may be better served by a filter. See city water solutions.
Yes, though wells often have iron, sediment or sulfur along with hardness, and those can foul a softener if they aren’t handled first. We test for them and may recommend a pre-filter or a combined system. Our well water solutions page covers the full picture.
It’s a hard crust of salt that forms in the brine tank, leaving a hollow space underneath. The tank looks full, but water can’t reach the salt, so the softener stops working. Humidity and overfilling are common causes. We can break it up and get the unit regenerating properly again.
Mostly just salt. Check the brine tank every month or so and keep it about half full. Every few years it’s worth having the valve and resin checked, especially on well water. If spots and scale come back, the softener needs a look before the buildup returns to your fixtures.
Yes. Hard water leaves minerals that settle in a tank or coat a tankless heat exchanger, which lowers efficiency and shortens its life. Softening slows that buildup considerably. It pairs well with a yearly flush; see our water heater flush and safety check.
