Well Water Solutions in St. George

Nobody treats a private well but you

City water is tested and treated before it reaches the tap. A private well isn’t. Out on rural lots in Washington and Iron counties, the water your family drinks comes straight from the aquifer, carrying whatever the rock and soil put into it. Around here that often means very hard water and fine sediment, and in some wells iron, manganese, sulfur or naturally occurring arsenic. Wells close to livestock, fields or a septic system can also pick up bacteria, especially after heavy rain or flooding.

We start with a lab test so the treatment is based on numbers, not a guess. Then we design a system in the order your water needs it: sediment removal, iron and sulfur treatment, softening, UV disinfection for bacteria and reverse osmosis for drinking water. Each stage protects the next, so the equipment lasts and the water stays consistent. If your home is on city service instead, see city water solutions.

  • Lab Water Testing We test for minerals, metals and bacteria before we design.
  • Staged Treatment Each stage sized for your well’s flow and your results.
  • Built for Rural Homes Systems for homes with no city treatment behind them.

Symptom Check

What your well water might be telling you

Some well problems are easy to see or smell. Others, like arsenic and bacteria, only show up in a test.

  • Rotten-Egg Smell

Hydrogen sulfide, common in some wells, also corrodes plumbing.

  • Orange or Black Stains

Iron and manganese marking sinks, toilets and laundry.

  • Cloudy or Gritty Water

Sand and fine sediment working into the system.

  • Heavy Scale Everywhere

Hard well water crusting fixtures and shortening appliance life.

  • Changes After a Storm

Taste, color or odor that shifts after heavy rain or flooding.

  • No Recent Water Test

If it’s been more than a year, you don’t really know what’s in it.

What We Treat

Treatment options for private wells

Your system uses the stages your test calls for and leaves out the rest.

  • Sediment Filtration Sand and grit removed before they reach pipes and fixtures.
  • Iron and Manganese Removal Oxidation and filtration that end staining and metallic taste.
  • Hydrogen Sulfide Removal Aeration or oxidation stages for sulfur odor and the corrosion it causes.
  • UV Disinfection Ultraviolet treatment for bacteria, viruses and cysts, without chemicals.
  • Softening and RO Hardness removed for the house and arsenic reduced for drinking water.

Well water questions from Southern Utah homeowners

How often should I test my well water?

At least once a year, and any time the water changes in color, taste or smell. Test again after flooding, after work on the well or nearby septic system, or when someone in the home is pregnant or has a weakened immune system. Regular results also show whether your treatment is still doing its job.

Is arsenic a concern in local wells?

It can be. Arsenic occurs naturally in some of the rock formations of Southern Utah, and testing of private wells in the region, including Iron County, has found it in a share of them. You can’t see, taste or smell it, so a lab test is the only way to know. If it’s present, reverse osmosis is a common way to treat drinking water.

Do I need a softener on well water?

Most wells here are hard, so a softener usually helps. Well water often needs iron or sediment removed first, though, because those can foul a softener’s resin. We design the treatment in the right order so each stage protects the next. Read more about water softeners, including models suited to well water.

What does UV disinfection do?

A UV system shines ultraviolet light through the water as it flows past, which stops bacteria, viruses and cysts from reproducing. It adds no chemicals and doesn’t change taste. It needs clear water to work, so sediment and iron filters go ahead of it, and the lamp is replaced on a regular schedule.
