Backflow Testing in St. George
Desert landscaping runs on irrigation, and every sprinkler and drip system tied to the drinking water supply is a possible path for contamination. If pressure in the main drops, during a line break or heavy firefighting demand, water can be pulled backward out of your yard, carrying fertilizer, weed killer and soil into the pipes your neighbors drink from. A backflow prevention assembly stops that, but only if its checks and relief valve still seal.
That’s why water providers in Utah require the assembly to be tested every year by a state-certified tester. Our technicians check each valve with calibrated gauges, record the readings and send the report to the City of St. George or your provider, so the notice in your mailbox gets handled. If the assembly fails, many fixes are a rebuild of worn parts rather than a new device. Pair the visit with a plumbing inspection to cover the rest of the house.
Symptom Check
Most calls start with a letter from the water provider, but not all of them.
Your provider has asked for this year’s test results by a deadline.
A relief valve discharging or a steady drip from the assembly.
Another tester failed the assembly and you need it repaired and retested.
New sprinkler or drip lines need an approved assembly before use.
A cracked body or bonnet after a cold desert night.
Confirm the assembly is current before the house changes hands.
What We Test & Repair

Seasonal checkups for every system in your home.
Seasonal checkups catch small problems before they become emergencies — and keep your systems running efficiently all year.
Backflow assemblies have springs, rubber seats and diaphragms that wear and can be fouled by sediment, and a failed one gives no obvious sign. State rules and local water providers require a yearly test so a failing device is caught before it lets contaminated water into the public system. Skipping it can bring a compliance notice and, eventually, a shutoff.
Most failures come from a worn check valve seat, a torn diaphragm or debris lodged in a valve. Those parts can usually be rebuilt, and we carry the common ones. If the device is old, damaged or obsolete, replacement may cost less over time. Either way, you get the price before we start, and we retest and file the passing result.
Many residential irrigation systems use a pressure vacuum breaker, mounted above ground where the sprinkler line branches off the house supply. Some properties have a double check or a reduced pressure zone assembly instead. The type determines how it’s tested and where it can be installed. We’ll identify yours on the first visit and note it in your report.
St. George winters are mild, but a clear night can still drop below freezing and crack an exposed device. Draining it after the irrigation season, or insulating it with a cover made for backflow assemblies, prevents most damage. If a freeze has already cracked it, call us. Our leak repair team can help if the damage reaches the supply line.
