Plumbing and boilers for Ignacio’s homes

Ignacio is a small town with a big role: it’s the headquarters of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation, set about 6,450 feet up in southern La Plata County. Its housing leans older, with the Census putting the median build year at 1976, and about a third of homes are manufactured. That mix shapes most of the plumbing work here, from rusted supply lines to drains that have settled over the years.

Element’s Durango team covers Ignacio for plumbing repair, repiping, boiler and radiant heat, drain and sewer work, water heaters and water treatment. Owner Jon Graham brings 28 years of plumbing expertise, and our technicians are trained in-house. We answer 24/7, we’re licensed and insured, and you approve the price before we begin.

About our work in Ignacio

Decades-old plumbing and single-digit nights

Ignacio’s post office opened in 1882, a few years after the Southern Ute Indian Reservation was established in 1878, and the town incorporated in 1913. Today it’s home to about 850 people and serves as the reservation’s headquarters. The Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum moved into its current building in 2011, and the Sky Ute Casino Resort sits on Highway 172.

The housing here leans older. The Census puts the median build year at 1976, and roughly a third of homes are manufactured. Older houses can still have galvanized steel supply lines that rust and narrow from the inside, shutoff valves that no longer close all the way, and drain lines that have settled or cracked over the decades. Older manufactured homes may have plastic supply lines that have turned brittle with age. Low pressure, rusty water and slow drains are the usual early signs, and when the pipe itself is the problem, we’ll show you and talk through repiping.

Natural gas heats more than nine in ten Ignacio homes, according to Census estimates, which makes gas water heaters and gas-fired boilers the norm. Gas appliances need clean combustion and proper venting, and an aging water heater tucked into a closet deserves a safety check.

Winter nights here get very cold. Ignacio’s long-term weather station averaged January lows of about 6°F, with close to 40 inches of snow a year. Pipes in crawlspaces and under manufactured homes freeze first, so intact skirting, working heat tape and a little warmth in the right places make a real difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you serve Ignacio and the area around it?

Yes. Ignacio is part of our Durango service area, along with Bayfield to the north and Hesperus west of Durango. We cover plumbing, boiler and radiant heat, drains and sewer lines, septic, water heaters and water treatment.

My water pressure keeps dropping. Do I need new pipes?

Not always. A clogged aerator, a failing pressure regulator or a partly closed valve can all cut pressure. In older homes, though, galvanized pipe that has rusted nearly shut from the inside is a common cause. We’ll find out which it is, and if the pipe is the problem we’ll price repiping upfront.

Why does my sewer line keep backing up?

Lines that have been in the ground for decades can sag, crack or let roots in at the joints, and each of those catches waste. A camera inspection shows exactly where and why, so you’re not paying to clear the same clog every few months.

Should I worry about an old gas water heater?

It’s worth a look. Rust at the base, a rumbling tank, scorch marks near the vent or a pilot that won’t stay lit are all reasons to call. The $99 water heater flush and safety check is a good start, and if it’s time to replace, take $250 off a new tank water heater.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. Financing is available for larger jobs like repiping, a new boiler or a water heater replacement. Estimates are free, and you’ll approve the price before any work starts.
