For drinking and cooking water, it often is. A reverse osmosis (RO) system pushes water through a very fine membrane, plus carbon and sediment stages, to remove most dissolved solids and many contaminants, including lead, arsenic, nitrates, fluoride and the minerals that give hard water its taste. In Southern Utah, where tap water is high in dissolved minerals, the difference in taste is easy to notice.

Most RO systems mount under the kitchen sink with a dedicated faucet, and many can also feed the refrigerator’s ice maker. Compared with buying bottled water, a system usually pays for itself over a few years. The trade-offs are a slower flow from the faucet, some water sent down the drain during filtering, and filters and a membrane that need changing on schedule.

Reverse osmosis systems are installed and serviced by our St. George & Hurricane team. RO isn’t offered in Flagstaff, Durango or Jackson, but every location installs other water filtration systems: Flagstaff, Durango, St. George & Hurricane and Jackson.
