Tankless Combi Boilers
A combi boiler does the work of a heating boiler and a water heater in a single compact cabinet. Most of the time it circulates hot water through your floors or baseboards. Open a hot tap and it switches over, heating domestic water as it flows, so there’s no storage tank to keep warm around the clock and no tank to take up floor space. In a small mechanical room, a condo or a remodel, that freed-up corner is often the deciding factor.
It isn’t the right answer for every house. A big home with several showers running at once may be better served by a boiler with an indirect tank or a separate tankless water heater, and we’ll say so. Combi installs, conversions and service are offered by our Durango & Southwest Colorado team, which also checks gas supply and venting on every job.
Good Fit?
Combis make the most sense when one or more of these describes your home.
Replacing two old appliances at once is the natural time to combine them.
No space for a boiler, a storage tank and room to service them.
A tank that empties halfway through the second shower.
Standby heat loss from a tank that sits warm all day and night.
Walls and floors already open make a conversion simpler.
Moderate hot-water use and limited space suit a combi well.
What We Do
Sized for your heating load and your household’s hot-water use.
How It Works
A tankless water heater only makes hot water; a combi also runs your heating. Sizing is the step that decides whether one unit can do both well.
Heating load plus how many fixtures run hot water at once.
We confirm the gas supply and vent path can serve the new unit.
Combi and alternative setups priced side by side.
Mounted, piped, combustion set for altitude and both modes tested.

Seasonal checkups for every system in your home.
Seasonal checkups catch small problems before they become emergencies — and keep your systems running efficiently all year.
For most small and mid-size homes, yes. A combi heats water as it flows, so it won’t run out, but it can only heat so many gallons a minute. Two showers and a dishwasher at the same moment may push a smaller unit past its limit. We size it from your actual fixtures to avoid that.
Yes. Minerals settle on the domestic hot-water heat exchanger, cutting output and shortening its life. A yearly flush and descale keeps it working, and in homes with very hard water a water softener ahead of the combi adds a good layer of protection.
If your home heats with a boiler, usually yes. The conversion removes the tank, mounts the combi on a wall and connects it to both the heating loops and the domestic water lines. Some homes need a larger gas line or new venting, which we check during the free estimate. We’ll also tell you if your hot-water use is better suited to keeping a tank.
For bigger homes with high hot-water demand, a standard boiler with an indirect storage tank often performs better, since the tank holds a reserve for busy mornings. We’ll explain the tradeoffs and price whichever setup actually fits the house. Sometimes a boiler paired with a separate tankless water heater is the better middle ground.
Tankless combi boilers are installed and serviced by our Durango location, from Durango and Bayfield to Pagosa Springs. If you’re near Flagstaff, St. George or Jackson and just want endless hot water, every Element location installs tankless water heaters, each sized for the elevation and the hard water it will face.
The unit’s output, whether it’s a straight swap or a conversion from a boiler and separate tank, the gas line and venting changes it needs, and how many heating zones connect to it. Condensing models also need a condensate drain. We size it from your heating load and fixtures, then give you a written, upfront price with the alternative setups beside it. Estimates are free and financing is available.
