Consider an upgrade when your panel can’t safely carry what your home now asks of it. The common triggers are adding a big load such as an EV charger, new air conditioner, electric range, hot tub or shop equipment to a 100-amp or smaller service; breakers that trip regularly; lights that dim when the AC or a large appliance starts; and a panel that’s warm to the touch, buzzes or shows scorch marks.
Age and brand matter too. Fuse boxes, and some older panel brands such as Federal Pacific Stab-Lok and Zinsco, have well-documented histories of breakers that fail to trip, and many insurers and home inspectors flag them. Most homes today are upgraded to 200-amp service. The job includes permits, an inspection and coordination with your power company, and it’s usually done in a day.
Panel upgrades and replacements are offered by our St. George & Hurricane team, the only Element location that offers electrical service. Electrical work isn’t offered in Flagstaff, Durango or Jackson. Panel upgrades can be financed.
