Do the meter test. Turn off every faucet, appliance and irrigation zone, then look at your water meter. If the dial or the small leak indicator is still moving, water is going somewhere. Check again after an hour or two of no use; any change in the reading confirms it.
Other signs of a hidden leak include a water bill that climbs without a reason, the sound of running water when nothing is on, damp or stained drywall, warped flooring, a musty smell, or a warm spot on a slab floor (often a leak on a hot water line under the foundation).
